ZAK SURFBOARDS – NEWS / BLOG

In the late 00’s, as the world slowly moved online, so did ‘surfing’. We aimed to display the Zak Surfboards range of boards alongside our services (repair and hire) and the surfing hardware & accessories we supported in the bricks and mortar retail store. Our primary motivation was to inform Victoria’s online surfing community about products we stocked alongside the tidbits of being in an inner city (Thornbury) surfboard shop. Our little news style blog dates back to August, 2010 with a quick note that we had the ‘Castles In The Sky’ surfing DVD and ‘..all the classics, $40 each or 2 for $70’. As the blog evolved we found ourselves posting about classic surfboards, interviews with Victorian shapers and even some more personal stories about loved ones lost.

As the world of online evolved, we decided to shift our online trade from our .com to a .com.au. We decided to keep our News (.com) service running and updated the space with guides, ‘how to’ information and tips on best products for your surfing experience. The unique situation of being owner operated, a core surfing shop and a small business brand created a unique identity online. As most readers observed, a major part in the evolution of Victorian surfing can be seen in the deep recesses of our blog.

During the pandemic years of ‘20 – ‘21 and after 17 years as Melbourne’s No.1 independent core board store, Zak and the team at Zak Surfboards rebranded the business. All online commerce, for all your core surfing requirements,  now resides at Melbourne Surfboard Shop, with 2 bricks and mortar retail shops in Thornbury and Newport.   Zak Surfboards (the brand) will now concentrate on its own branded surfboards and surf accessories, and our Blog exploring local surfing news.

In 2022 we are aiming to clean up the dead links, re-format the image galleries and keep updating our content for the Victorian surfing community.
